The approval desk

# Is this medicine approved?

Ask about the exact product. A broad label or a code is not enough.

For US medicine review, the agency is the Food and Drug Administration, or FDA for short. Ask: What name will be on the medicine box? What is the part intended to do the work? Which health condition would this medicine address?

## Some peptides are approved medicines

The US approvals recorded as of September 26, 2026 cover semaglutide products (Ozempic, Wegovy) and also tirzepatide products (Mounjaro, Zepbound).

Ask for the name printed on the box and whether the product comes as tablets or injections.

## A familiar name can still lack approval

FDA approval covers no US product for either BPC-157 or ipamorelin as of September 26, 2026.

A familiar word in an advert is not an answer to the approval question.

## Custom preparation does not give a medicine FDA approval

Compounding can serve a medical need, but FDA approval does not cover the medicine it produces, as of September 26, 2026.

Compounding means making a medicine to order.

Federal law limits making copies of ready-made medicines.

Ask: What needs to change in the ready-made medicine to meet my needs? Why does that change matter for me? Which pharmacy will make it? A lower price alone does not explain a medical need.

## A directory code does not settle it

A National Drug Code supplies no proof of FDA approval, as of September 26, 2026.

That code identifies a listed product. Ask for an approval record rather than accepting the code as one.

## What can I ask next?

Can you show me the approval record for this exact product? If it is compounded, can you explain the need it is meant to meet?

Another question

[What does made to order mean?](/compounding-desk/)

Medical jargon can be questioned

## Can you explain that?

Ask for the answer in plain words, then ask for it in writing if that helps.
